{lost in a good book}

The coffee table is currently buried under pile upon pile of fashion and design hardcover books and magazines, and rather than stow them away on shelves or in armoires, I rather like the idea of neat and colourful stacks tucked in a well-lit corner alongside art and elegant hatboxes, as in Hervé Pierre's Manhatten apartment, which is described as a combination of "fun, frenchness and fashion history" . . .

{Sounds just about perfect.}

For those who prefer a more neutral palette, classic built-ins in warm tones and books shelved with their ends facing outward create a softer, more unified space.

{more great storage and display ideas:}
> a pretty endtable magazine rack
> stacks of magazines for a desk
> stacks of magazines for a bench

that first post is like my dream room! stacks and piles of lovely books about even more lovely clothes, hat boxed, frippery, flowers, drawings up on the wall... just gorgeous. that apartment sounds like heaven to me.

i like the built in too, i have a cupboard like that in my room, although at the moment it's housing all my school work and dvds... i should think about puting my books in there!

thanks for the inspiration and the comment. i don't know if you already knew this, but the header is from an editorial from vogue uk by tim walker... i think from 2004? but i'm not 100% sure.

Wish I could treat my books like that... lately they've been reproducing themselves like bunnies, and I struggle to find a place to put them. As my tiny room (living in a dorm is difficult!) has no room for more shelves, lately they've been piled on top of each other on every free surface. When I grow up, I'll have my own library, and it's going to look rather like the pictures you posted.

This first photo is to die for! I love the bows on the screen. And the piles of books and magazines. My house is filled with mags I've done the 'initial flick' of and never gone back and read articles and studied the images. And yet I continue to buy more! Maybe need to stop and read the ones I've got first! x

The top picture is absolutely amazing! I can't stop staring at it on my screen! I love that there is a gloved hand holding up a fan in the background. And the way that room divider screen is decorated with the bows and pictures. This room has such character in all of the intricate details.

I love it when things are neatly tucked, as long as you can keep a chic mind about it all.

OH! I adore both. How would you ever choose?

I'll tell you my book-storage method. Use the gorgeous, if slightly-too-formal-for-me 6 cherry bookcases inherited from my parents. Still. To choose my own.

I like the first idea moreso than the second one. I like how the books become design accessories to accent the room. I also like the accessibility of the books in this interior design idea. I might use this when I move out (whenever that is). Thanks for sharing!
