{lost in a good book}

The coffee table is currently buried under pile upon pile of fashion and design hardcover books and magazines, and rather than stow them away on shelves or in armoires, I rather like the idea of neat and colourful stacks tucked in a well-lit corner alongside art and elegant hatboxes, as in Hervé Pierre's Manhatten apartment, which is described as a combination of "fun, frenchness and fashion history" . . .

{Sounds just about perfect.}

For those who prefer a more neutral palette, classic built-ins in warm tones and books shelved with their ends facing outward create a softer, more unified space.

{more great storage and display ideas:}
> a pretty endtable magazine rack
> stacks of magazines for a desk
> stacks of magazines for a bench

that first post is like my dream room! stacks and piles of lovely books about even more lovely clothes, hat boxed, frippery, flowers, drawings up on the wall... just gorgeous. that apartment sounds like heaven to me.

i like the built in too, i have a cupboard like that in my room, although at the moment it's housing all my school work and dvds... i should think about puting my books in there!

thanks for the inspiration and the comment. i don't know if you already knew this, but the header is from an editorial from vogue uk by tim walker... i think from 2004? but i'm not 100% sure.

my dream room!the first picture would be every girl's dream :)

Wish I could treat my books like that... lately they've been reproducing themselves like bunnies, and I struggle to find a place to put them. As my tiny room (living in a dorm is difficult!) has no room for more shelves, lately they've been piled on top of each other on every free surface. When I grow up, I'll have my own library, and it's going to look rather like the pictures you posted.

This first photo is to die for! I love the bows on the screen. And the piles of books and magazines. My house is filled with mags I've done the 'initial flick' of and never gone back and read articles and studied the images. And yet I continue to buy more! Maybe need to stop and read the ones I've got first! x

Okay, that first photo just drew me in :) I can't imagine being able to find anything in those luscious stacks though. I like your built in shelves, those are GREAT!

The top picture is absolutely amazing! I can't stop staring at it on my screen! I love that there is a gloved hand holding up a fan in the background. And the way that room divider screen is decorated with the bows and pictures. This room has such character in all of the intricate details.

In my opinion, any room that has books has warmth and intrigue. Love both of them!

MJ [Reply] said... Best Blogger Tips [Reply to comment] Best Blogger Templates

I love it when things are neatly tucked, as long as you can keep a chic mind about it all.

I love books and I love these pictures, I want to just dive into picture number 1 and spend a day (or two) there.

gorgeous, gorgeous images - love them both. i am always torn between the very pretty and the more elegant/neutral .

dolcechic [Reply] said... Best Blogger Tips [Reply to comment] Best Blogger Templates

Of all things...I'm really loving the pink hat boxes! They're a great added touch!!!

coco+kelley [Reply] said... Best Blogger Tips [Reply to comment] Best Blogger Templates

the corner of my bedroom looks just like the top image! except much less chic of course. LOVE the big bows on the fabric panels! i must get more lovely boxes... right now i have one lone hermes creating that stack (which is not a bad start!)

Relyn [Reply] said... Best Blogger Tips [Reply to comment] Best Blogger Templates

OH! I adore both. How would you ever choose?

I'll tell you my book-storage method. Use the gorgeous, if slightly-too-formal-for-me 6 cherry bookcases inherited from my parents. Still. To choose my own.

i love books even in this age of internet and computerised communication books will always have a place in our heart and home!

I love how the spines aren't visible in the second shot - the pages make a beautiful tonal composition ...

Joanna Goddard [Reply] said... Best Blogger Tips [Reply to comment] Best Blogger Templates

thank you so much for the link!! :) also, i LOVE that second photo. seeing the paper, instead of the spines, is just lovely....although you'd have to go digging through for your fave book! thanks again :)

I love the book shelf, I wish I had pink boxes like that for my shoes!

JeannieTheDreamer [Reply] said... Best Blogger Tips [Reply to comment] Best Blogger Templates

Wow! Thank you :) i LOVE the second picture, the first picture is great work too except it won't work with a toddler in the house... LOL

today i'm in another city visiting a garden, and i found a home library and snapped photos of it...

Jiovanni [Reply] said... Best Blogger Tips [Reply to comment] Best Blogger Templates

I like the first idea moreso than the second one. I like how the books become design accessories to accent the room. I also like the accessibility of the books in this interior design idea. I might use this when I move out (whenever that is). Thanks for sharing!
