- Beautiful! But, did you know that the Autumnal Equinox actually occurs on September 23rd this year at 3:09am UTC {GMT}? This is very interesting {if you are a science geek, like me} because it means that autumn begins {or spring for southern hemisphere} on different days in different parts of the world. In England fall begins on 9/23, and here on the east coast of the US, fall will begin less than an hour before midnight on the 22nd. So for many of us, there's an EXTRA day of summer!
