FEED "how to GiftSquared" holiday party hosted by Lauren Bush Lauren with cookie decorating with Karlie Kloss and Christina Tosi

{event : FEED holiday party with lauren bush & karlie kloss, new york}

FEED began in 2006 when acclaimed model and activist Lauren Bush designed a bag to benefit the United Nations World Food Programme's (WFP) School Feeding program. As a WFP Honorary Student Spokesperson, Lauren visited countries around the world in Asia, Latin America, and Africa where WFP is operating and was inspired by the plight of the people she met on her travels. She took a special interest in WFP's School Feeding program, which feeds and educates hungry children.

“I think the best gifts are ones that represent a larger idea of giving and caring. Our products will empower the gift-giver, delight the recipient and provide impactful food assistance and, with artisan-made products, employment to those in need throughout the world. To me, this is the perfect way to give!” —Lauren Bush Lauren

I had the opportunity to attend Lauren's holiday event in New York, on behalf of {this is glamorous}, and was able to check out her new line that was handmade in Africa. Lauren told us that she visits the site in Kenya, where the bags are made and has built a relationship with the artisans.

Each Feed 5 Africa Bag provides 5 children with micronutrient powder for one year. Lauren told us that the outside of the bag is made with traditional burlap material and then lined with traditional African kitenge fabric.

Supermodel, Karlie Kloss [above], who started her organization Karlie's Kookies this past summer, told us that she was looking for a way to give back and wanted to do it with something she loved: cookies.

{event : FEED holiday party with lauren bush & karlie kloss, new york}

So she teamed up with famed James Beard award-winning chef, Christina Tosi, of Momofuku Milkbar and served up her "kookies" at the event with proceeds benefiting hungry children around the world (through FEED) as well as meals for those effected by Hurricane Sandy.

Karlie, who is very conscious of nutrition, told us that one of her favorite cookies is the Perfect 10", which is a dark chocolate and almond oat cookie  that happens to be dairy-free, gluten-free, and no sugar added! We tasted all the cookies at the party (and also helped her bake some) and we can testify that they were absolutely delicious!
