{décor | storage inspiration : ikea and the perfect high-low mix at home}

at home with {this is glamorous}

WHILE THERE IS an antique mahogany china cabinet that now holds shoes in the bedroom, in the powder room, as you know, there is a temporary storage unit/medicine cabinet in the form of an Ikea glass front cupboard that ended up working so well, it has become a permanent place for gold-lidded bottles, beautifully-scented oils and serums, and happy morning routines, which had me thinking about good high-low mixes at home.  Coincidentally, discovered features in current issues of décor magazines, recently, that were thinking along the very same lines . . .

Discovered while flipping through the November 2013 issue of Livingetc, this Aneboda plastic and fibreboard wardrobe in white, above, designed by Tord Björklund at Ikea, was covered in a 3D wallcovering to give it a luxe texture and elegance.

From the October 2013 issue of House Beautiful, happened upon the Stockholm glass door cabinet from Ikea's new Stockholm collection, designed by Ola Wihlborg.  A favourite feature is that it was designed so that the room is visible through it, making it perfect for wallpapered spaces.  Wouldn't it be lovely for shoes or cashmere sweaters?  But in gold, of course.
