IN A TIME WHERE life was simpler and people were happier, there was Slim Aarons to photograph it all. Called by some the ultimate lifestyle photographer, his shots evoke the lost café society years of impeccably dressed socialites having lunch at Chateau de Chilly, basking in the afternoon sun by the pool in a desert house in Palm Springs, or spending time with their family on a yacht in Tuscany . . .

To appreciate the art depicted in Slim Aarons' photographs without feeling a glimmer of jealousy upon seeing the idealistic and vibrant lifestyle lived in them, one must understand that it originated from his years as an army photographer. Aarons spent years chronicling the atrocities of the Second World War, and after, understandably gravitated towards aesthetically pleasing images. As a firm believer in fairytales, he portrayed them through his incredible photographs, and shot the kind of life most of us dream of living . . .

Thank you for the bit of background info! I'm reminded of speaking with an old neighbor who was a veteran. As a young girl, I asked him why did he like to watch frilly things while I liked action genre. He taught me that it was because he has seen the atrocities of war and enjoys light-hearted things to ease his mind. Of course, I never forgot that.
